What is woodworm?

And how do you know you have it?

Woodworm is the term used to describe the presence of any wood boring insects.

Woodworm beetles leave their larvae on or in wood. The larvae then invade and feed off wood until they reach their maturity when they leave.

Most modern homes are built with timber which has already had a treatment for woodworm and is resistant to infestations. However most older buildings are vulnerable to woodworm.

Woodworm do not differentiate between your furniture and your home. If there is woodworm in furniture, woodworm will likely also be in other timbers around your house. and therefore the whole level of that building should be treated.

How do I know if I have woodworm:

  • Small round holes with an approximate diameter of 1.5mm in your woodwork
  • Presence of a fine sawdust around these holes
  • Adult woodworm beetles emerging from your woodwork or generally present in and around your house
