Basement waterproofing or cellar tanking is an easy way to increase your living space and the value of your home.

Damp walls and surfaces result in the growth of microbes including fungi, moulds and bacteria, which render the environment unhealthy to live in.

There are two techniques for waterproofing a basement:

1. Cementitious structural waterproofing

Application of a waterproof layer of plaster or concrete that holds out moisture

Applicable only if:

  • The structure of the building is strong enough to resist the added pressure from the water in the walls
  • The building is in a stable environment. If the plaster is subjected to vibration it can crack and then will leak

2. Cavity drain membrane

A waterproof membrane is attached to the wall. The moisture forms on the membrane and flows into a drain where it is pumped out.

Ideal if:

  • Your structure cannot resist the added pressure from the water
  • Your home is subjected to vibrations that might crack plaster
