CAVITY DRAIN SYSTEM.

Cavity Drain Structural Waterproofing is one of the systems we use to provide dry living areas to basements and earth retaining structures.

The system works by hanging a strong polypropylene membrane onto walls, across floors and around curved ceilings. This allows penetrating water to enter the building behind the membrane which directs the flow of water into purpose made gullies leading to a sump. The water is then collected and pumped away.

There are a variety of different membranes we can use to suit a clients different needs. For example if space is an issue we can use a plastering membrane which takes up less room than a dry lining membrane.

It is possible to combine cavity drain systems with Cementitous systems.

The following four photographs are of a client’s basement, taken looking at the same window.

This photograph shows our client’s basement on the day our work began. You can see a channel is starting to be formed to take the gullies around the edge of the room. It is also interesting to note how wet the area is.

This photograph shows how the membrane is hung on the walls and across the floor. The channel has been cut out and the gullies fitted around the room. The white tape is joining section of membrane together. The black tape is a temporary measure to hole the edges of the floor membrane up in readiness for the new concrete floor to be laid.

This photograph shows the finishing stages of our work. A metal frame has been secured to the membrane using special yellow fixing plugs. Plaster board is then screwed to the frame in readiness to be skimmed.

This photograph shows the plastering finished in readiness for decorating.

CEMENTIOUS SYSTEMS

Cementitous structural waterproofing (tanking) is the system we use for creating a dry area in basements and earth retaining structures. It is especially useful where there are complicated shapes and flat ceilings.

The area to be “tanked” is cleaned so that the dirt and debris is removed. This may involve sand blasting. Once this has been done a strong render coat is applied. Once the render coat has dried Vandex BB75 is applied and left to cure. It is the Vandex BB75 which forms the waterproofing barrier. Once it has fully dried finishes can be applied.

It is possible to combine Cementitous systems with cavity drain systems.

This photograph shows the preparation which is under way to remove defective old plaster.

This photograph shows a staircase. The side wall has been rendered and Vandexed. The steps have been Vandexed and will be covered with non slip tiles.

This photograph shows a basement with complicated corners. The basement has been tanked using the Cementitous system and finish plaster applied.

"We have recently completed a structural waterproofing project on a basement where we have increased our client's usable living space by one third and the value of their property by £150,000!!!"

"Our client's were faced with the expense of moving house but now have all the space that they need."
