Rising Damp occurs when there is a failure of an existing damp course or no damp course in a building.
Moisture is drawn up into the brickwork and plaster from the foundations. When the moisture evaporates it leaves behind salts.

This photograph clearly shows the effect of rising damp. The brown staining of the wall finishes is due to the salt contamination of the plaster.
In this situation we recommended to our client the following treatment:
• The removal of the skirting board which had decayed from the moisture in the wall and replacement with new after re – plastering.
• The removal of the affected wall plaster to a height of one metre.
• Drilling a series of holes into the lowest visible mortar joint and injecting them with the appropriate chemical.
• The Re – Plastering of the affected area

This Photograph shows the salt contaminated plaster falling off the wall.
This clearly demonstrates the need to treat rising damp.
